BOTRIPHNIE MAGAZINES
The P4 – 7 pupils have been using just pen, paper and their imaginations to make Botriphnie magazines.
Such as Higgledy-Piggledy, Devil Mag and Brainbuster Mag.
Together I'd say they’ve made the coolest set of magazines this century.
THREE CHEERS FOR BOTRIPHNIE MAGAZINES!

Bag Making
We printed our own REUSE bags at school to reduce plastic bags use. People use lots and lots of plastic carrier bags in a year. People should reuse their plastic bags and use less. Using lots of plastic is not good for our environment.
I really like the bags that we made. They are colourful and bright and we will be able to use them again and again.

Glass Painting
Glass painting is fun. You have to put on a pattern first with a silver paste and leave it to dry. When its dry you fill in the spaces with the coloured glass paint.
We turned glass jars into candleholders. We put candles in them and lit them for parents evening. They looked good. Did you see them? This is a good way to reuse a glass jar.

Golfing & Games
Golfing and games is at Drummuir hall on a Thursday after school. It starts at 3:15 and finishes at 4:15. Kerry Smith teaches us it. Last week we learned how to chip and putt, we also learned how to hold the golf club. In three weeks time we will be going down to Keith Golf Club to compete with other young golfers.

Making a mess to celebrate the Hindu festival of Holi or the festival of colours. We took paper and thin paint then we splatted the paint on the paper to make pretty pictures. Holi is when the Hindus splat each other. by Jonathan P7

It’s a Wasteful life
Last week the P4-7 went down to St Thomas primary school to watch a drama show about the 3rs
REUSE REDUCE RECYCLE

We made REUSED maracas out of old bottles and put lentils in them and decorated them to take down with us. Tim Flood who helps us with our Multi-Media shows wrote the songs that were in it. I think that everyone enjoyed it and thought it was funny. When we arrived there were three other schools already there.

Osprey
The osprey is endangered because some farmers are putting pesticide on their crops. When it rains it runs into streams and rivers poisoning the fish. If the ospreys eat the fish they die.

P7 day of dance
The p7 went down to Keith to St Thomas primary school to meet other children from Rothiemay, Newmill and St Thomas primary. Mrs Henderson, Kim Paterson, Susan Johnston and Mrs Edwards were the teachers who helped us. We shook hands with a few people and got to know them and then we got into groups and made a dance. I really enjoyed it and would like to do it again I made a lot of new friends.

PAKISTAN
There was a tunnel made of solid salt. They rode on donkeys and in strange
vans. Their lorries and buses were very colourful. The train that goes into
the salt mine is called a bogie.
They speak English.
They don`t wear a helmet riding their motorbikes when going around the town
but they do at a junction.

Rag rugs Tim flood made frames for our rag rugs. We used old strips of material with different colours and patterns and wove it through the strings on the frame. We now have something to sit on to keep our bottoms warm. This is an example of using things not needed to make something fun and warm.

The Rock Challenge
A month ago Keith Grammar competed in the Global Rock Challenge. Their
theme was Anything you can do I can do better.
They came second and they got best lighting and best choreographer and I
certainly enjoyed it. I think there will be an awful lot more people next
year. Then Botriphnie primary 7s got to see it at the grammar. They really
thought it was cool and well set out. We all thought it was fantastic it was
bold and jumpy. I will definitely be in it next year.

Snow – Our School is closed
When it’s snowy Miss Findlay puts a message on the phone so you know that the school will be closed. On snowy days mum phones the special number (08700549999 pin 031130) to find out if the school will be closed that day. Our school was closed for two days and we had fun with two days off school. We went sledging and played snowballs. It was great.

The Rainforest
![]()
The p4 to 7 class have been learning about the animals, plants and the trees in the rainforest. They also made a rainforest collage with beautiful birds, colourful butterflies and gorgeous flowers. They did worksheets as well. They have been learning about the rainforest because it is the biggest natural resource in the world. It is the most valuable resource because the trees take in carbon dioxide, which is one of the greenhouse gases, and give out oxygen which we need to survive.
The rainforest is so beautiful that some people want to take some of it for themselves. They take animals like parrots for pets, gorillas for food and plants for their houses but the biggest thing that people are destroying is the forest itself. Huge areas of the rainforest are being cut down every minute. The more trees that are cut down the more carbon dioxide we have on our atmosphere. We need to keep trees to keep our planet healthy. The rainforest is very interesting to learn about and I hope we learn more.

The Science Festival
Last week P4-7 went on a trip to Moray College. The Science Festival was taking place there. We went to 3 workshops. The 3 were Kids in space, Sky in a bottle and Monster Mallows. Kids in space was absolutely BRILLIANT !! We learned what the names of planets were and what they’re made of and there was even a bit where you got to take part!
Sky in a bottle was disappointing compared to being at Kids in Space. I thought since being at Kids in Space the other workshops would be brill but Sky in a Bottle wasn’t. It just showed us stuff about the atmosphere and the gases in it etc etc. Monster Mallows was ace and I think the rest of the class agree.
We had a wonderful day but I cant hope to go back because I go to the grammar next year.

www.Gridclub.com
We have had Grid club for a few years now. It was introduced to us by Pete Mungall. Each one of us has our own password. Sometimes it can be something funny like Readyruler. You can meet new people and you can make a home page if you like with codes and pictures. You can get stars White, Red, Green, Blue and Yellow. it is fun. It has worked so far. It is only for P4 - P7 and sometimes Teachers.

Tiger poems
The p7/6/5 and 4 have been giving a lot of thought to their tiger poems.
We have a lot of poets in our class so Ms Normand asked us to use feeling and
descriptive words to make our poems interesting. Each table had a slide show
of images of tigers running on a laptop to help us with our poems.
Now we have our Tiger Poem booklet.
I think we have written good poems about tigers in cages and in the wild.
Now here is a part of our poems.
Life style of tigers

Because of the man.
The tiger feels scared
So she bites the bars in warning.
The man went in to the cage and bang
She groans and she drops.
No more sound
Just the sound of the wind whistling
Then the cage door closes.

Bird Ringing

Tuesday 28th of February P4/7 went bird ringing. We watched Rachel and her team ring birds. They had a big net called a Mist Net to catch them. When the birds had flown into the net a man went out to get them. He would put them in a bag and take them inside. Then we watched while Mick took them out to ring them. After that they would weight the bird then they would record it in a book. Some times they were already ringed. We caught lots of different kinds of birds. The biggest one we caught was a blackbird. I liked it a Lot.

Things to do on a snowy day
This is how to build a cool snowman. First you need winter and some snow.
Get a snowball and roll it up until it becomes large and strong. This is the
body. Now you need to make the head by making a slightly smaller snowball. Put
the smaller snowball on top of the body. Pack snow around the bottom of the
head to make it steady. Use a carrot for the nose and five pieces of coal for
the buttons and eyes. Put a scarf around its neck to keep it warm. Put a hat
on top of its head to make it smart. You use twigs for the arms for the
snowman.

Horse Riding
I go riding on Topper at Grange riding school every seven days. We go on the bus with Mrs Ross. We pick up other children on the way. Topper is a grey. There are tons of horses there and there is a donkey there that was rescued from Blackpool beach. He was getting beaten up and now he lives at Grange riding school.
I have been learning

Hoof picking
Stable management
About bones
Holding the reins
Trotting
Last week I trotted without Jim holding my lead. It was exciting. I like to go horse riding. It makes me happy.

Moray Music Festival
Lauren, Alexander, Ricky, Katie and Katriona went to the Moray Music Festival on the 16th March. There were three schools competing in the group violin section. There was Botriphnie, Cullen and Cluny. We all played three songs. We had practised very hard for this competition. I was very nervous and my legs were shaking. We all lined up to go on stage, took a deep breath and walked on. It looked as though there were hundreds of people looking at us. We waited a few minutes until the adjudicator was ready, then we began. We all played our best. When we had finished we took a little bow and walked off. The adjudicator gave us some tips. Then she announced the winner. It was us! I wanted to jump up and down because I was so happy. When we had finished we had our photo taken. We will be in the newspaper.
I feel happy, relieved and proud.
